Losing a child has got to be one of the worst things that can happen in life. When it happens for inexplicable reasons, it can be even harder to come to grips with. And yet, that’s what thousands of parents contend with every year because of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), an enigmatic condition that claims as many as 2,300 babies annually.

Although no one has been able to pinpoint precisely what causes SIDS, there could be a new weapon in the battle against it. Bio-medical engineering company Exmovere has joined forces with AT&T to offer high-tech baby pajamas with a built-in early-warning system. The onesy, made by Exmovere, is rigged with biosensors that can take the little one’s vitals. The data is then sent to moms and dads over AT&T’s cellular network, so they can regularly monitor their child’s well-being via desktop, phone or tablet.

I could see how this could bring peace of mind, especially if there’s a family history with SIDS. If any of the vital signs reach a critical point, parents get an immediate alert. And since it doesn’t appear that the cellular transmits directly from the garment, there should be little to no concern of how the radiation might affect the child. The sensors are even removable, to make frequent washing a no-brainer.

Of course, the onesy could be used for other purposes too. It has built-in “moisture detection,” and can even detect anomalies and emotions, in case the parents want to keep tabs on how well a nanny or daycare is tending to their baby.

The cotton PJs will come in sizes from 0 to 12 months. If you’re interested in these, or know of someone who might be, you can follow Exmovere at the source link.
